When the Mind Becomes Nervous

Nervous breakdowns usually happen when a person snaps under pressure. It’s like an electrical circuit that goes haywire and then a short occurs to provide no power at all. The same is when a person breaks down in the mind causing them to have physical, mental and emotional overloads.

Understand that a nervous breakdown is somewhat of a mental disorder, but not considered as a disease. This can be triggered by emotional and stressful overloads from professional and personal situations in someone’s life. It can be deepened if an individual has sudden changes that are devastating; such as death of a loved one, loss of job, demanding family responsibilities and even large amounts of debt.

Signs that someone is having a nervous breakdown can be observed by the following:

  • Lost of appetite
  • Suffering from insomnia
  • Depression or anxiety attacks
  • Being emotionally drained because of  mental unstableness
  • Lost of interest with life as a whole
  • Being delirious and having regular nightmares of odd events

Some cases have seen where a nervous breakdown can cause a person to suffer from catatonic posturing where the individual is unable to move. Studies have found that an individual can go to the other extreme becoming narcissistic, being vain and pumping up their image.

The challenging part of treating this condition is getting the person to visit a doctor to be diagnosed. Nervous breakdown victims, who have suffered in secret for years, begin to feel better after talking with a psychiatrist.  Those who suffer from it on a higher level are often giving medications and counseling to treat them. There is no standard cure for the condition, but these procedures can assist in recovery to lead a normal life.

Suggestions on ways to avoid having a breakdown are to walk away from situations to calm yourself down. Taking vacations and relaxing hobbies are excellent ways to put you in a different mind frame.
