When you have a mental health issue like depression or anxiety, it can be hard to know who to turn to. Sometimes your friends and family members are supportive and understanding, but sometimes they’re not. If you can’t turn to them, who can you talk to? Many people pray or meditate, which is perfectly fine for those who hold these beliefs. If those things aren’t for you, though, or if you feel that they aren’t enough, there are psychiatrists and other counselors who can help you get through your mental health problems. It’s not always about “curing” someone, but more about learning to deal with things the way they are.
Often, when you address the problems in your life and accept them, or when you’re taught new and better ways to deal with them, they don’t feel as significant. You may, in time, essentially be “cured” of your anxiety or depression because you look at life differently. Even if you don’t improve to that extent, you can certainly get better and find ways to see things differently so that you can be happy again. That’s important for your own health, but it’s also very valuable to your friends and family members, who may feel as though they’ve lost you to the mental health problems you’ve been facing.
Don’t give up on getting better. It won’t happen overnight, but you can certainly see an improvement whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, or something else. There are medications and therapies that are offered today, and many of them are designed to improve quality of life quickly, so that people can feel like themselves again. It may take you a little bit of time to do this, but much of that will depend on how much work you’re willing to put into feeling better.
